CRISPUS:

The ruler of the synagogue at Corinth, who became a Christian, with all his house, through the preaching of Paul (Acts xviii. 8). In one of his letters to the church at Corinth (I Cor. i. 14), Paul speaks of Crispus as one of those whom he had baptized. There is a tradition that Crispus became such an important factor in the early Church that he was ordained Bishop of Ægina ("Apost. Const." vii. 46).
