HILDESHEIMER, SAMUEL BEN JOSEPH:

Rabbi at Frankfort-on-the-Main (1618-22). He reorganized the Jewish congregation, whose administration, in consequence of the Fettmilch agitation, was disrupted. Upon his proposition seven representatives, chosen from among the new members, and known as the "Aussengemeinde," were added to the old board of ten; four of these seven were to act, during two months of each year, as collectors and as presidents of the synagogue. Hildes- heimer also regulated the functions of the day- yanim.
