KAPÓSI (KOHN), MORIZ:
Austrian dermatologist; born at Kaposvár, Hungary, Oct. 23, 1837; died March 6, 1902. After graduating (M.D., 1861) from the university at Vienna, he settled there as a physician. He became privat-docent in 1866; assistant professor in 1875; professor and chief of the dermatological clinic and hospital in 1879, in succession to Hebra. In 1899 the title of "Hofrath" was conferred upon him. He was a convert to Christianity.
Kapósi published over one hundred essays in the leading medical journals, especially on dermatology and syphilis: about lupus erythematosus, frambœsia, rhinoscleroma, xanthoma, zoster, etc. Among his works may be mentioned: "Die Syphilis der Schleimhaut der Mund-, Nasen- und Rachenhöhle," Stuttgart, 1866; "Die Syphilis der Haut und der Angrenzenden Schleimhäute," Vienna, 1875; "Lehrbuch der Hautkrankheiten," Stuttgart, 1876; "Pathologie und Therapie der Hautkrankheiten," Vienna, 1879 (5th ed., 1899; it has been translated into French, Russian, and English); "Pathologie und Therapie der Syphilis," Stuttgart, 1891. In 1881 he published in the "Wiener Medizinische Wochenschrift" a biography of his teacher, entitled "Gedächtnissrede auf Hebra."
