WORMS, ÉMILE:

French jurist; born at Frisange, Luxembourg, May 23, 1838; educated at the University of Heidelberg and at Paris (LL.D. 1864). In 1863 he received a prize from the Institut de France for an essay on the commercial history of the Hanseatic League; and in 1867 he was again awarded a prize. In that year he was appointed assistant professor of law at the University of Paris; and later in the same year he received a call as professor of law at the University of Rennes, which position he held until 1898, when he removed to Paris.

Worms represented the French government at the statistical congresses of Florence (1867), The Hague (1869), St. Petersburg (1872), and Budapest (1876).
