Name of the place where the combat between Joab's and Abner's men took place, in which all on both sides were slain (II Sam. ii. 16). It appears from the passage that the name means "the field of the sword-edges." The Septuagint translates "the field of those who lay in wait," reading , a form accepted by several of the modern critics. Thenius reads ("the field of the adversaries").
